Show, Don’t Tell
The single biggest mistake in sustainability marketing: talking about commitments instead of showing actions.
“We care deeply about the environment” convinces nobody. “We reduced packaging waste by 40% in 18 months” converts.
Three parts to the framework:
- Document the journey. Show the raw progress, the trial phases, the behind-the-scenes work. Not just the finished, polished result.
- Anchor every claim to a number and a timeframe. “We cut packaging waste 40% across our supply chain in 18 months” is a claim nobody can dismiss.
- Put proof everywhere, not just in a PDF. Product descriptions, checkout pages, packaging, social. If the proof only lives in a report nobody reads, it isn’t doing any work.
Formats worth your budget: Short-form video of real facilities and real operations, not stock footage; employee interviews, letting the people doing the work explain it in their own words; a QR code or stat printed directly on the packaging itself
Documented progress beats broad promises every time. That’s the difference between marketing noise and actual proof.
